Home renovation is one of the most popular
subjects among homeowners today. It seems
that even if you buy the perfect home, sooner or
later you will want to change or upgrade it.
Remodelling, after all, is how you put your
personal stamp on that home. Some people
will want to do all the work themselves and
others will hire contractors to complete all the
work. Then there are the many that like to take
on the simpler jobs themselves and wisely call
in plumbers and electricians to ensure those
things are done right. Some renovations are
mainly redecorating and do not cost too much
relatively speaking while others will come at a
high price tag. Plan and arrange your finances
before starting the renovation project.

Remember, the same principles that apply to a
new home apply to your home renovation
project. Renovating frequently involves
purchasing some new appliances. By selecting
the most energy efficient appliances you will
enhance the energy efficiency of your home
and reduce your energy bills. Hot water supply
is one place that you can take control of your
energy bill. In most cases, the installation of on
demand or instant hot water units near each
point of use is the best solution. Why heat
water at noon and maintain it so you can have it
at 6:00 PM? Fridges and freezers is another
place that is simple to economize on energy.
All new fridges and freezers have Energy
Rating labels, which use a rating system of 0-6
stars to represent energy efficiency of the
appliance. The more stars on the label, the
more energy and money you'll save.

If you are hiring contractors, do your due
diligence before signing any contracts. And for
sure get a contract that spells out exactly what
the contractor is going to accomplish and what
products they will use. Vague descriptions and
parameters are useless to you. See some of
the other work the contractor has done and
speak to some previous customers.
