If you are considering the construction of a new
home instead of renovations to your existing
property, there are a number of things to think
about. First, is the design of your present home
such that it can be modified to become what you
want? Is it in the part of town that you like? How
much is the net cost of you selling and building the
new home? That is, after you pay the realtor, pay
the movers, buy the property, build the house and
re-establish you and your family to another part of
town, how much more or less will it cost you than if
you remodelled the home you are in?

There is an up side of new construction. Some of
good parts are: you get to choose the home floor
plans, you get to pick the finishes of the walls and
the floors, you choose the property to build on and
you get a great sense of completion when it finally
gets completed. If you have ideas of designing
your own house, there are many design programs
available to choose from. Even if all you wish to
do is take you concepts to the architect in a clear
format, these programs are the answer. A good
3D design program can clarify your thinking. I like
to have pictures of the building I plan to work on.
This allows me to revisit the project and rehash
the solutions.

The refurbishing of your existing home can have
advantages of it’s own. You know the house. You
know the neighbourhood. If the basic structure is
sound, it is very possible that it will be less
expensive to remodel than new house
construction. You have the leisure of selecting
when you will upgrade your home. In fact, you can
do it in stages if that works best for you. Properly
planned, your contractors expand the main floors
then reassign the space to your desired floor
plan. Now for any kind of major renovation you will
need to move out of the house for an extended
period of time.

Do not push the contractors to rush and get you
back into the home. Why would you want to cause
mistakes?
