If you have a drainage problem, there are a
few simple steps to complete with before
calling in the plumber. Plumbers are
expensive and they usually can not come to
your place at a moments notice.
I trust you own a plunger. If you do not, you
should go buy one now. You will need it
sooner or later. At time same time, maybe
pickup some chemical drain cleaner for
those stubborn clogs. Use the drain cleaner
with care (follow instructions). When using
the plunger. There is the right way and the
not so right way to do this.
· Do not – savagely push down on the
plunger (this usually just sets the clog more
firmly in place). ·
Do set the plunger head over the drain and
slowly depress until fully compressed.·
Quickly pull up on the handle so that the
plunger is sucking back the clog.·
Repeat 8 to 10 times before discounting this
solution. Sometimes clogs are stubborn.
Failing with the plunger, you may wish to try
chemical drain cleaner.
· Reduce the standing water as much as
possible·
Carefully pour the drain cleaner directly into
the drain opening. Use a funnel if you are
working on a sink drain. This is so as to not
stain the sink.·
Allow the chemical time to work (each
product states the time on its label). if the
clog releases, flush the drain with water for
at least one minute. If the clog persists, the
choices become:
· Buy a sewer snake and give it a shot
on your own. Sink drains usually need to
be disconnected at the bottom of the sink
so as to be able properly snaked. Should
you choose to do this, remember to place a
large pan or bucket under the P-trap under
the sink BEFORE disconnecting it.·
Call a plumber at this point the plumber will most likely save you money and sanity.
